We’re willing to bet every true crime documentarian has the face of Andrew Jarecki, director of the landmark series The Jinx, on a dart board somewhere after he managed to get an actual on-mic confession from his subject, Robert Durst, creating one of the most monumental and satisfying conclusions to a true crime whodunnit in history. The second season of The Jinx, which will come out almost 10 years after its first run, will explore eight more hours of the investigation post confession. Jarecki and the rest of the filmmakers have stayed hot on Durst’s case since he was arrested and convicted, and Durst has been in contact with them from prison. They have a tough act to follow with season 1, but there’s no doubt the world will be tuned in.

Well, You Don’t Own Me: How Mattel v. MGA Entertainment Exposed Barbie’s Dark Side, originally a book, reveals, as the title suggests, the darker side of doll HQ. The book chronicles the toy battle that shaped the industry, the one between Mattel, the makers of Barbie, and MGA, the makers of Bratz, Barbie’s raunchier, cooler competition. As much about a court battle over ideas and intellectual property as it is an exploration of womanhood and the icons that children look to for inspiration, the deep dive is set to get a documentary adaptation sometime later this year (hopefully with less of a mouthful of a title though).

Director Giuseppe Tornatore was a longtime collaborator with iconic composer Ennio Morricone, famed for his work on films like The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, Cinema Paradiso and The Hateful Eight. In this upcoming documentary, Tornatore takes a look at his friend, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 91. Still, he was able to contribute to the film, giving the definitive look at his expansive career, from a start in Italian pop music to his legendary film scores. The movie also calls on the likes of Bernardo Bertolucci, Clint Eastwood and Quentin Tarantino, collaborators with Morricone, to round out the picture of one of film’s most important figures.
