Alice In Chains made history decades ago with the release of their set Jar of Flies. In 1994, that title became the first EP to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In the decades since, it’s remained a fan favorite–and the band’s followers are still consuming both the project and the tunes featured on it in huge numbers.
This week, one of the tracks featured on Jar of Flies reaches a Billboard chart for the very first time. As it debuts, the tune adds to Alice In Chains’ discography of hits, and it rearranges their personal ranking of their highest-rising wins on the tally.
“Nutshell” debuts on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart this frame. The tune opens at No. 6 on Billboard’s list of the bestselling hard rock-only cuts in the country.
As it arrives, “Nutshell” instantly becomes Alice In Chains’ second-highest-rising hit on the tally. That honor used to belong to “Hollow,” which brought the band to the top 10 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart for the first time back in 2013. That tune stalled at No. 9, and it only managed one frame on the list.
Alice In Chains’ biggest smash on the purchase-focused roster remains “The One You Know.” That cut nearly conquered the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, as it climbed as high as No. 2 half a decade ago.
The band has placed just one other cut on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales ranking. Alice In Chains’ “Man in the Box” may have only reached No. 18, but it stands out as their longest-running win on the tally. It’s actually the band’s only hit to spend more than a single turn on the roster, as it managed an entire month somewhere on the chart.
“Nutshell” is one of just two debuts on this week’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. Alice In Chains come in behind Cory Marks, Travis Tritt, and Sully Erna, who launch their collaborative “(Make My) Country Rock” at No. 4 on the latest edition of the tally.
