the Sandman It has been on hiatus since Season 1, which premiered in August 2022. Following the renewal, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes immediately hit the show, significantly delaying progress. Season 2 finally wrapped up in August.
And now, during Geeked Week, the show's creator Allan Heinberg has invited fans to the set to get a glimpse of the stories to come in season 2. The 3-minute teaser, telling fans to 'return to the dream', shows off our new heroes and a bevy of gods – many of whom you'll recognize from world mythologies from Greek to Norse. Check it out below:
The Sandman teaser gives fans their first look at the Season of Mists!
Both Heinberg and Sturridge began by teasing Dream's situation at the start of the new season. Tom Sturridge says, “At the start of Season 2, Dream is in a state of rebuilding”, to which Allan Heinberg adds: “He's determined to go back to account for his behavior in the past.”
This is of course in reference to the story of Season of Mists, in which Morpheus is determined to make up for his past mistakes, and travels back to Hell, where he seeks to save his past love. Season of Mists is set to be one of the major storylines in the upcoming season.
“We have a whole new cast, a whole new world and historical period we're exploring,” Heinberg said. Most notably, Season 2 will introduce us to the rest of the Endless family: Delirium (Esme Creed-Miles), Destiny (Adrian Lester) and The Prodigal (Barry Sloane), “We're adding the rest of the Endless family to our existing little family that we've had since Season 1,” Heinberg said.
One of the most anticipated scenes in Season 2 is the Endless family meeting, where the whole family (except Destruction) gathers for dinner. This scene is one of the few times we see them together in the series. It's an iconic moment for fans, and it's the catalytic event upon which the rest of the story is based. “I think one of the most exciting things about this season is that for the first time the Endless siblings are in one room together, and to see this extraordinary family exist on screen together,” Tom Sturridge shared.
Kirby Howell-Baptiste (died) said even more about the family dinner. He said, “I think the most surprising thing about the family dinner is that it's where we learn about the sequence of events, but it also starts the chain of events.”
Later mist season In the story, the Dreaming receives numerous guests from various backgrounds, all eagerly vying to be handed the sacred key to Hell. It's a wonderful mix of mythology, from Odin to the fairy Clurakan. Speaking about the event, Allan Heinberg expressed his excitement for fans to see what's to come. “I'm very excited for the audience to see the banquet hosted by Dream for all the gods and fairies who come to Season of Mists,” he said. “It's your introduction to Thor, it's your introduction to Loki, Odin – it's really a showstopper, with something interesting and terrifying happening everywhere you look.”
As far as the season as a whole goes, Heinberg didn't hold back his enthusiasm: “It's even more beautiful than Season 1,” he said. “The sets are great, the props are great. It looks fantastic.”
Furthermore, Tom Sturridge echoed the same sentiment: “Excitingly, we introduce a lot of different things and ideas and images and stories,” he joked. “I think fans will be extremely excited about this season.”
What about the other stories?
Despite being impressed by this teaser, I couldn't help but ponder the conspicuous absence of other stories. It's been well documented over the past few months that 'Season 2' will likely conclude the entire series. However, this teaser only shows us one story arc, as well as a few snapshots Song of Orpheus.although it is possible that we see clips from other stories such as Brief Life And Kind people In other trailers, it feels weird that we're only seeing footage mist season,
The focus on Season of Mists also reinforces the notion that Netflix may batch-release episodes to tell separate storylines, with this arc being the first.
Netflix has also confirmed a 2025 release, which we already knew, but it's nice to have official confirmation. No specific release date has been set yet. Watch this space.
