Billie Eilish has ranked as one of the most popular musicians on the planet for at least half a decade now. The young singer-songwriter seems to only become more and more successful, and her music is constantly reaching new audiences. She’s enjoyed immense success on streaming platforms for years now, but she’s never been bigger than she is at this moment.
The Grammy and Oscar winner has officially pulled ahead of the competition and become the most-streamed artist on Spotify this month. Eilish’s music has attracted 99.1 million listeners, as of the writing of this article.
Eilish lands the coveted title of the musician with the most monthly listeners in the world on the planet’s most important streaming platform for the first time. She grabs the highly-desired honor from another superstar—one who regularly rules the site.
Before Eilish usurped him, The Weeknd ranked as the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. He is not far behind his new competitor, as the Canadian pop/R&B star currently claims 98.6 million monthly listeners.
While he may have just been replaced on top of the list of the artists who are reaching the widest audience on Spotify, The Weeknd doesn’t seem upset about that fact. He even recently reshared a tweet stating that Eilish was about to pass him with a simple comment: “Let’s go!” alongside hearts and other emojis that showed he was in support of Eilish’s success.
The Weeknd does still hold the all-time record for the most monthly listeners. He once claimed just over 104 million fans in a single month, all of whom had played at least one of his tunes.
Eilish’s performance on Spotify is impressive, and it makes sense that she’s risen to this new high point now. She’s still promoting her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, which arrived earlier this year. The set’s new single, “Birds of a Feather,” has been steadily growing in popularity all around the world. At the same time, her new collaboration with Charli XCX, “Guess,” became a streaming phenomenon in a matter of days just a week or so ago.
Eilish also recently performed during the closing ceremony at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She and several other Los Angeles-based musicians, such as Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, put on quite a show, as the next summer games will be held in California. That TV special surely helped her Spotify plays increase, especially among some who might not have otherwise been listening to her.
