Newly released video shows police questioning Colt Gray about online threats to carry out a “school shooting” a year ago Four people reportedly shot dead at Apalachee High School — his father openly told police officers that the young teen had weapons and that “we have a lot of shootings.”
Footage released Monday shows two Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies questioning Gray — who was just 13 at the time — and his father, Colin Gray, in May 2023 after receiving a tip from the FBI.
The video begins with Colin, wearing a green shirt and underwear, coming to the door and being told that someone from his “old address” is using Discord to threaten to “commit a school shooting.”
The surprised father replies, “Really,” to which the officer tells him that his name is linked to the address.
“Do you have any kids living with you or anything?” the officer asked Collin, who was now wearing shorts and had an energy drink in his hand.
“Yes, Colt Grey,” Colin replies, “He’s my oldest son.”
The officer then asks the father if his son plays “a lot of video games.”
“Yeah, he does that. All the time,” Colin pointed out.
Investigators then ask if Colt is home and if there are any weapons in the home that might be accessible to him.
“They are, I mean, nothing is loaded, but they are,” Colin replies. “We actually, we do a lot of shooting, we do a lot of deer hunting. He killed his first deer this year.”
He then tells the officer he is “shocked” and “a little upset” by the allegations and explains he had no idea (Colt) ever said any of those things.
The angry father told officers, “I would be so angry if he did that, and all the guns would be gone, and he wouldn't be able to use them.”

Collin explains that he's “trying” to teach Colt about “firearms and safety” and trying to get him “interested” in outdoor activities so he doesn't play video games as much.
“The picture I have on my phone is of him with blood on his cheeks and it was his first time hunting a deer,” says Collin – adding that it was “the greatest day ever”.
Colin then explained that Colt “understands the seriousness of weapons and what they can do.”
The agitated father told investigators he knows the allegations are “no joke” and that he has “discussed” Colt “a lot” about school shootings and whether he is “being harassed at school,” to which he replied “yes, that’s what is happening.”
Collin told officers he would get his son, but “his face will turn red when you talk to him” and he wanted to keep things “cool.”
A few seconds later, the video stops and shows Colt — who is wearing a baggy blue T-shirt, gray sweatpants, and a baseball cap — nervously arriving onto the porch with his father.
“Did your father explain everything to you?” an investigator asked him.
With his hands in his pockets and sounding a little tense, Colt mumbles that his dad said “something about…”, but his father interrupts, “School shootings.”
“Did you say anything about the school shooting?” one of the investigators asked 13-year-old Colt.
The teen replies, “Never, I just told him, I don't know what, maybe he misheard someone else, I don't remember saying that.”
“You never said…” the officer tries to confirm, before Colt interrupts, “No sir, I swear.”
Investigators then ask him if he uses Discord, to which Colt replies, “Yes, sir,” but also says he hasn't used it in a few months and believes his account was hacked.
“I mean I'm not trying to corner anybody or anything like that, but this is some serious stuff,” the officer said.
“Oh, he knows how serious this is, believe me,” Colin interjected.
The alleged mass murderer then insisted he never saw any threat of a shooting on the platform, and his father seemed satisfied with his son's answers.
One investigator told Colt, “I have no choice but to believe you,” but he stressed that if it turned out he was lying, it would be a “different story.”
“That's actually a different story,” his father says, growling a bit, before the video ends.
