The brutal murder of Brian Thompson was not the first time UnitedHealthcare has been at the center of a high-profile murder.
An employee of the company infamously shot a Virginia reporter and his cameraman live on air during an interview in August 2015.
Vester Lee Flanagan II committed suicide After reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward were shot and killed while they were working for CBS affiliate WDBJ-TV in Roanoke.
Video of the horrific incident, shown on the station’s morning news program, captured at least eight gunshots, then screams, and showed Flanagan, 41, holding a gun.
Ward, 27, and Parker, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman they were interviewing, Vicki Gardner, survived after being shot in the back.
Flanagan was fired from the news outlet in 2013 for poor performance and disruptive behavior.
He later took a position at UnitedHealthcare Call Center in Roanoke, where he worked until November 2014.
According to reports at the time, Flanagan was accused of grabbing a female employee by the shoulder and aggressively telling her to never speak to him again. It is not clear why he ultimately left the program.
Flanagan, who posted a video of the murders On his Twitter account, killed himself During a car chase with police.
About six years later, Brian Thompson became CEO of UnitedHealthcare Group.
Thompson, 50, was shot dead on Dec. 4 as he walked to an investor event at the Hilton Midtown without a security detail.
