Sometimes, there is such thing as too much cheese.
California Pizza Kitchen responded to a takeout error with a sweet deal for all customers.
A user on TikTok shared that she ordered CPK’s macaroni and cheese because she was having the “worst week of [her] life” — but when she opened her meal, there was only cheese.
“I’m injured, my boyfriend and I broke up, so I ordered mac and cheese from California Pizza Kitchen,” she said in the viral video, which has garnered 3.7 million views. “And they just sent me cheese. Just cheese, no mac. There’s no noodles.”
She even looked at the rest of the bag to show that the noodles weren’t even packaged separately — no cheese in sight.
“Are you f–king kidding me? I’m gonna cry,” she exclaimed.
When the user called the restaurant, two different workers allegedly told her she “ordered wrong” and should order noodles separately.
Naturally, the video went viral, and CPK responded by sending the user a care package full of pasta noodles — no cheese — and certificates for free mac and cheese and free pizza for a year.
The restaurant chain also shared a hilarious video — which garnered 9.6 million views — featuring a “PSA on how to make CPK Mac ‘N’ Cheese correctly.”
The video showed chef Paul Pszybylski, CPK’s senior director of culinary development, saying that he thought he’d send the video far and wide to make sure “everybody knew the proper steps.”
He said step one is to cook the cheese, step two is to cook the mac — “don’t forget” — and step three to add the mac to the cheese.
Pszybylski ended the video by sharing that they want to take care of their guests — and are offering a new deal to everyone.
“Since we recently we gave one of our guests only half a mac and cheese, we’re going to give all of our guests half-off mac and cheese starting today through the rest of the month,” he declared.
To claim your half-off mac and cheese, order online using the promo code “cheeseANDmac,” a cheesy nod to the mistake they made.
The deal goes through July 31.
