Security has ‘blood on their hands’

A daughter of the firefighter killed by former President Donald Trump’s would-be assassin said law enforcement officers who were at the rally have his “blood on their hands.”

The family of slain hero Corey Comperatore, 50 — who was gunned down as he shielded his family from a sniper shot on July 13 — demanded answers about why security at the event dropped the ball.

“I just want them to know I think my dad’s blood is on their hands, and I hope they wake up every day thinking about what they took from our family,” Kaylee, 24, fumed in a fiery Thursday interview with Action4News.

“Because we have to wake up every day and see that image of our father in our head, and no child should ever have to see that.”

Comperatore’s heartbroken widow, Helen, said she has hired a lawyer to probe what potentially went wrong between the Secret Service and Butler Township cops — who failed to stop Matthew Crooks from opening fire from a roof at the Pennsylvania rally, the station reported.

“I want justice for my husband, and I’m going to get it,” she said.

During the interview, both of Comperatore’s daughters, who were there at the rally, described the nightmarish moment they realized their dad had been shot.

“I had turned around, I went, ‘Dad’ — he fell down, and that’s when I started screaming and I was trying to keep him from bleeding,” Kaylee recalled.

“I started screaming, but in my head, I kept saying, ‘Wake up, this is a dream,’” she said. “And then you realize it’s not a dream, and you feel like your whole world is just over.”

Comperatore’s 27-year-old daughter, Allyson, said he likely saved her life by diving on top of her while shouting, “Get down!”

“I was the one that my dad threw down. As he was throwing me down, that is when he was shot and he ended up falling on me,” Allyson said. “I don’t remember any other shots. In that moment, I was trying to take care of him. I was really confused when he was on me.”

She described Comperatore as a devoted dad who would “put my hair in braids” and root for her at cheerleading practice.

Ultimately, Comperatore’s family said they wanted him to be remembered as more than simply the guy who was killed at a Trump rally.

“He was just a wonderful man,” Helen said. “Just remember Corey as he was — a great man who was a great father, great husband.”

In the days following the assassination attempt, Helen remembers Corey as her “hero” for saving his family.

“He was a simple man but he put his wife and kids first all the time,” she told The Post last month. “I did nothing here. I didn’t lift a finger. He did everything.”
