Deranged beggar held without bail after vicious stabbing of woman in NYC subway station: cops

The deranged beggar accused of repeatedly stabbing a woman inside a Queens subway station was ordered held without bail Tuesday – as prosecutors said the victim is “fighting for her life.”

Randol Contreras, 24, is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly stabbed the 23-year-old stranger “multiple times” in her stomach and slashed her in the face at the Jamaica-Van Wyck E train station in Richmond Hill around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, court documents said.

The violence erupted after Contreras demanded money from the woman, but she said she didn’t have any, according to a complaint filed in Queens Criminal Court.

“We have charged Randol Contreras with attempted murder,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. “A young woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed in an unprovoked attack as she exited the subway system. This defendant allegedly asked the victim for money and then stabbed the woman multiple times in the torso, leaving her with a punctured liver and lung, and slashed her face.”

“Millions of New Yorkers rely on our mass transit system, and we will aggressively prosecute those that commit violence on our subways.”

Two good Samaritans stepped in to stop the senseless attack, including Alexander Robles Lino, who told The Post four of his young children – ages 3, 5, 7 and 9 – watched him fight off the knifeman.

“We saw this guy attacking that woman and, with my friend, we decided to get involved because he was stabbing her,” Robles Lino told The Post Monday.

“We grabbed him and threw him to the ground and waited for the police so they could arrest him,” Lino said. “I asked him, ‘Are you crazy? What are you doing?’”

Lino said the creep shouted back, “what? what?” then hurled the knife into a subway station trash can and tried to make a run for it — only to be thrown to the ground by the hero pair.

Later, Lino said his kids told him, “Papa, you’re a hero.”

“But I don’t really consider myself a hero,” Lino said. “I think that’s something anyone would do if they saw somebody being attacked like that, to help her.”

The unidentified woman was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where cops say she was listed in stable condition.

Contreras – a Bronx resident who has no prior arrests – was also charged with first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree attempted robbery and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the complaint.

He was ordered held without bail during his late Monday arraignment before Quynda Santacroce.

Contreras’ next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
