former cnn host Don Lemon Time Magazine criticized as a “joke” after revealing the President-elect Donald Trump was elected their Person of the Year,
Lemon hosted a TikTok Live where he referenced the publication’s long-running call to honor Trump after winning the 2024 presidential election and overcoming both felony convictions and assassination attempts.
The magazine wrote, “For a comeback of historic proportions, for a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and transforming America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is Time’s 2024 Person of the Year.” It’s the year.”
Lemon was angry at the decision, attacking the magazine for choosing someone he said did not stand for democracy.
“If they wanted to make somebody Person of the Year, I don’t know, they could have done it with anybody. They could have done that with somebody who really stood up for democracy, who stood up for democracy in the country,” Lemon said.
Although Time Magazine has chosen the winner of the presidential election as Person of the Year in every election season since 2000, Lemon stressed that becoming president does not automatically qualify a person for the position.
“Time Magazine, what are you doing? I ask you, Time Magazine, what would you say to the women I think still read Time Magazine? Lemon asked.
He added, “You have someone on the cover of your magazine who is a determined attacker.” “You have someone who has inspired rebellion. We have someone who, without a doubt, the evidence exists, tried to overturn a free and fair election. You had someone who had multiple criminal accounts and was convicted of multiple criminal cases. And you name him Person of the Year.
“Is this a joke? Did we do something wrong? Did someone scam us? Are we sure about this, producers? There’s a convicted criminal on the cover of Time magazine as Person of the Year. Maybe our Being duped. Did someone put out a fake tweet about this? I don’t know,” Lemon concluded.
Trump’s name was also taken person of the Year After winning the presidential election in 2016, Time wrote that since his campaign, Trump has completely recalibrated “the course of politics”.
Time wrote, “Since he began running for president in 2015, perhaps no single person has played a greater role in changing the course of politics and history than Trump.” “Trump is once again at the center of the world, and in as strong a position as he has ever been.”
Time’s other finalists this year included Harris, billionaire Elon Musk — who was named Person of the Year in 2021 — podcast veteran Joe Rogan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Last year’s Person of the Year was pop star Taylor Swift, who recently finished her record-breaking “Eraaz” concert tour.
