How to Turn On Dark Mode on Twitter/X

X is where everyone comes to talk about the latest happenings in the world, as well as make some funny comments. So I won’t blame you if you spend hours browsing your feed. But it can put a strain on your eyes, especially if you are using the app in light mode. So in this article, we will show you how to turn on dark mode on Twitter or X.

Method 1: Enable dark mode on X app

Even before the X name, when it was called Twitter, the app had a dark mode that worked pretty well. The good thing is that not much has changed even today. So here's how you can enable dark mode on the X app on Android and iOS.

  1. Open the X app, and tap your profile icon Top left.
  2. From the sidebar menu, tap Sun sign,
  3. Under “Dark Mode,” select But. On iPhone, you need to turn on Dark Mode Toggle off this screen.
  4. For dark theme, you can choose between Foggy Or lights out,

The app will now switch to the dark theme. Foggy will apply a gray tone to the app, while lights out Goes completely black, best if you have a phone with an AMOLED display.

Method 2: Let X follow your device theme

Another way to get dark mode on the X app is to make it match the device theme. I like using the app this way, as it changes colors depending on whether my phone is in dark or light mode. Therefore, the app stays consistent with the rest of the device theme. Here's how to set it up.

  1. On the X, tap your profile icon Top left.
  2. Then, tap on Sun sign Bottom left.
  3. Here, select Use device settings. On iPhone, you need to turn it on Use device settings Toggle on instead.

For those of you who use the popular social media website on your web browser, here's how you can turn on the dark theme just like we did for the mobile app. Just follow the steps below.

  1. Go to X and click More Click on the option.
  2. Go Settings and privacy,
  3. Then proceed further Accessibility, performance, and languages menu in the settings.
  4. go here Display and choose between Foggy Or lights out Select options under “Background.”

Method 4: Using Chrome Flags for Dark Mode

The above method should already help you, but if for some reason, you are unable to get it to work, you can go the Chrome flags route and forcefully apply the dark theme on X. Here is how you can do it.

  1. On your Chrome or Chromium web browser, type chrome://flags in the address bar.
  2. On the Chrome flags page, search for “dark.”
  3. Here, find and click on “Auto dark mode for web content” default drop down menu.
  4. From this drop-down menu, select Active,
  5. Now, click on Relaunch to apply the changes.

This will apply the dark theme to all websites you visit using the browser. If you don’t like these changes, you can revisit these steps, and change the value back to “Default”.

This guide ends here, and I hope these four methods are enough to help you browse X without hurting your eyes. These days, most apps and services offer dark themes and it is great for users on X to choose between the dark theme and the pitch black option. But which one is your favorite?
