This tool is believed to be able to help you transform your rough sketches into realistic and beautiful images within the Notes app. And now, with iPadOS 18.2 beta, you can finally see the tool in action. So, if you’re ready to take your Notes to the next level, here’s how to use the Image Wand on iPad with iPadOS 18.
Use the Image Wand on the iPad Notes app with Rough Sketch
You can use the Image Wand to create realistic sketches from your rough ideas within the Notes app. Here’s how to do it:
- Make a rough sketch of your idea with Apple Pencil in the Notes app.
- In the Apple Pencil tool, select the new “Image Wand” tool (highlighted below)
- Circle your sketch and write the basic details of your sketch.
- You will see several sketches based on your idea. Choose the one you like and tap “Done”.

Use the Image Wand without a rough sketch
If you’re really bad at sketching like me, you can even use the Image Wand without a rough sketch in the beginning.
- Simply select the Image Wand tool and circle an empty area in your note.
- Then, type a description of the image you want to create.
- Choose the sketch that best suits your preferences and tap “Done” to insert it into your note.

You can also use the Image Wand without an Apple Pencil by simply drawing with your finger and creating a realistic sketch from it using the Image Wand tool.
Edit images generated with the Image Wand
Images you add using the Image Wand feature can also be edited later. This means, if you feel that you want to further edit the previously created image, you can do so and get a new image instead. Here’s how to do it.
- Tap the image you added with the Image wand in your Notes app, and tap the “Apple Intelligence” icon in the toolbar.
- You can now add more details to the description or remove details from the description to change the image.
- Select a newly generated image, and tap “Done” to add it to your note.
Use Image Wand on iPhone
If you don’t have an iPad, but you use the Notes app on your iPhone with iOS 18.2 installed, here’s how you can use the Image Wand on your iPhone.
- Open the Notes app and make a sketch with your finger. Then, select the Image Wand tool and draw a circle on your sketch.
- Add a description of your image. From the generated images, choose the option that best suits your needs and tap “Done” to add it to your note.
