An illegal immigrant was caught allegedly trying to rape a Florida woman who raised the alarm by calling 911 and pretending to order pizza, according to authorities.
Luis Hernandez-Moncayo, 27, was arrested earlier this month on kidnapping and sexual assault charges — just one day after he applied for asylum, according to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, who did not specify who the suspect was. Where was he originally from?
The sheriff said Hernandez-Moncayo had become “extremely violent” after taking cocaine, and his genitals were found “on top of a screaming woman” in a field in Pearson.
The quick-thinking alleged victim caused Hernandez-Moncayo to raise the alarm thinking she was ordering food – but she was actually on the line at 911.
“Yes, I would like to order pizza,” the woman was heard saying in the audio of the call, which was released with her voice changed to protect her identity.
“Do you know you’re calling 911?” the dispatcher asked – immediately understanding when the woman replied: “Yes, I’m sure I’m calling that number. Can I have a pizza?
“I would like to order pepperoni and extra cheese,” she said when the dispatcher put her on the line and asked additional questions to find out if she was with a person who was not armed, but she didn’t know that. Where they really were.
The Sheriff’s Department eventually triangulated the caller’s location — video showed the accused assailant still closing in on the woman, the sheriff said.
“He’s trying to rape me!” The video shows that the woman screamed. “Can you help?” She kept screaming again and again with painful sobs.
As deputies grab the suspected rapist – one repeatedly telling him, ‘Don’t you move’ – the woman screams, “Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you Jesus – he tried to rape me.
“When you watch the video … and you hear those screams, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up,” Chitwood said.
The woman told police she knew Hernandez-Moncayo and was planning to have a few drinks with him — but the sheriff said, “he relapsed after taking a line of cocaine.”
“He became extremely violent and wouldn’t let her go and tried to rape her,” Chitwood said. “The video speaks for itself.”
The sheriff said the suspect was “in the country illegally” and “the day before the incident, he had applied for asylum.”
“He is now sitting in our jail with three felony counts against him – and the Border Patrol has filed a detainer against him.”
The sheriff said he was “very proud” of the accuser as well as his deputies, who “brought this scoundrel into custody.”
Hernandez-Moncoya faces three counts of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping and battery. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer representing him.
