“Yellowstone” star Denim Richards sadly left the show when her character, Colby, died — but she’s still around Video series called “Stories from the Bunkhouse” Where he discusses each episode with his co-stars Ian Bohen and Jefferson White after it airs. (Videos available on Youtube,
Ahead of the hit Ranch drama’s finale airing Sunday, Richards went down memory lane and told The Post about the first table read of the cast before the show’s premiere in 2018.
Richards recalled, “Everyone is getting together and (Kevin Costner) comes in. He has a huge presence, but very polite.”
“Everyone is getting up from the table to read and get ready to go out. (Costner) said, ‘I don’t know about you guys, but I’m extremely scared. So why don’t we do our best and come together and do this, and support each other.”
He said that after Costner spoke, “You could feel the tension go out of the room. It was a beautiful thing. This is an Oscar-winning legend… whether he was actually scared or not, who knows. But, it gave everyone that extra confidence that there was no hierarchy.”
“Yellowstone” is about the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. It focuses on patriarch John (Costner), who was also governor before his death, and his adult children Kayce (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Beth’s husband, Rip (Cole Hauser). .
The cowboy drama has been a hit, with the season 5 premiere of the second half garnering 17 million viewers.
Season 5 is likely the final season. However, on Wednesday, it was reported that Reilly and Hauser have closed deals to lead a spinoff show about Beth and Rip. In August, multiple outlets also reported that a season 6 was in the works, but Paramount never announced or confirmed it. The Beth & Rip Show will reportedly not be a season 6 but a separate spinoff show.
Richards played Colby, a ranch employee who is killed by a horse.
Meanwhile, Costner, 69, exited the show after the first half of Season 5 amid rumors of a feud with creator Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan initially told The Hollywood Reporter that Costner was prioritizing his box office bomb, “Horizon”, over “Yellowstone”.
Costner denied that account as “a bullshit story” and told Deadline, “I was straight up with (Taylor Sheridan), and he said what would we do, and I believed him and we didn’t get there. “
When the second half of season 5 premiered on November 10, John was killed off to deal with Costner’s absence from the show, in a hit man attack that was initially staged to look like a suicide (but was later staged to look like a suicide). At this point, everyone knows it was a murder)
Regarding the drama surrounding Costner’s exit, Richards told The Post, “Of course, you do what you can to try to silence anything from the outside. “As you know, sometimes things happen and then they don’t.”
He further said, “Things get leaked and come into discussion. It’s not always what people see sometimes.”
“For us, I realize it’s out of my pay grade. You can’t worry about how things will turn out,” he added. “I see myself as a boat in the ocean, you can’t control how all the waves will be going, just make sure you have a strong boat that can handle any and all waves. Things go back and forth…you can do the best you can.”
The “Yellowstone” season 5 finale will air Sunday, Dec. 15 (8 p.m.) on Paramount Network.
