Hey there, fellow Loki fans! Loki Season 2 Episode 1 has just dropped, and it’s an absolute rollercoaster. Our mischievous God of Mischief is back in action, and boy, did it deliver! From the heart-pounding opening sequence to mind-blowing VFX, the dynamic duo of Mobius and Loki, and of course, Loki’s knack for narrowly escaping death, it’s all we could have hoped for. But wait, who’s this mysterious O.B., or Ouroboros, played by Ke Huy Quan, and how does he fit into the Loki universe? Stick around, because we’re about to unravel the secrets.
Introducing Ouroboros: The Norse Connection
First off, Ouroboros, the name itself is a massive Easter egg from Loki’s Norse mythological roots. In Norse mythology, Ouroboros is a serpent that’s often depicted biting its own tail. Now, here’s the kicker—Ouroboros is one of Loki’s three children. Marvel’s dropping some intriguing hints here. Could this be a sign of a deeper connection between Loki and O.B.? Or perhaps, it’s a symbolic nod to the never-ending cycle of life and death, as depicted in Norse mythology.
Ouroboros in Marvel Comics
Marvel Comics has its own take on Ouroboros. Meet Mr. Ouroboros, a clone of Mr. Paradox and a TVA Judge, just like Judge Renslayer, who’s given Loki a hard time. Mr. Ouroboros once presided over She-Hulk’s trial in She-Hulk Vol 2 #3. Later, he and Mr. Paradox were “pruned” from time using the TVA’s deadliest weapon—the Retroactive canon.
“Ke is, I think, about to become a lot of people’s new favorite Marvel character…The short synopsis is…The TVA has a lot of amazing production design and computers and tech and like all of this stuff. And it made us go, all right, if we’re expanding out the world, the TVA, where’s all that coming from? Who’s keeping all of this old, old stuff running and it, and it’s OB–Ouroboros.”
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. In Loki Season 2 Episode 1, we see O.B. teaming up with Mobius, effectively making him an adversary to all the season 1 villains, including Renslayer. So, if she makes a comeback, which is highly likely, are we about to witness Ouroboros being wiped from reality? The suspense is killing me, and we’ll need to keep tuning in to find out more.
Ouroboros’ Future in the MCU
In an interview with Blavity, Kevin Wright, the producer of Loki Season 2, teased Ouroboros’ substantial role in the broader MCU beyond this season. He hinted that O.B. is on the verge of becoming a fan-favorite Marvel character and will play a pivotal role in unveiling the TVA’s deepest secrets. Kevin mentioned:
With such a statement, it’s safe to say that Loki Season 2’s Ouroboros, aka O.B., is here to stay in the MCU. Now, if we’re talking about new faces in Loki Season 2, let’s not forget about Rafael Casal, who’s set to play Hunter X-5, or Brad Wolfie, known as Zaniac. The future of Loki Season 2 looks incredibly promising, and this is just the beginning.
The Loki Season 2 Journey
Loki Season 2 is off to a fantastic start, and this was only the opening act. The post-credit scene of Episode 1 even brought back Sylvie in a truly unexpected fashion. It’s got us all wondering how this storyline will unfold. But let’s be real, lately, Marvel has had a knack for throwing some curveballs that can upset the apple cart. Fingers crossed they don’t do the same to our beloved Loki.
To see if this ride goes up or down, we’ll all have to wait until October 12 for Loki Season 2 Episode 2. Until then, let’s soak in the awesomeness that Loki Season 2 has in store for us.
