Hrithik Roshan had a successful debut with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and went on to star in several hit films such as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Koi… Mil Gaya, among others. However, his versatility as an actor was best displayed in the film Lakshya.
Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Lakshya is a coming-of-age war drama that allowed Roshan to showcase his acting skills. He played a complex role character Karan Shergill, a young and carefree man who transforms his life after enlisting in the Indian Army. While the film didn’t do exceptionally well at the box office, it has gained a cult following over the years. But not many know that Hrithik Roshan wasn’t the first choice for the lead role of Karan Shergill in Lakshya.
Not Hrithik Roshan, but this top Bollywood actor was Farhan Akhtar’s first choice for Lakshya
According to a DNA report, Farhan Akhtar had reportedly offered the lead role to Aamir Khan after working with him in his directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai. However, the latter was unable to accept the role as he was already preparing for his role in his next project, Mangal Pandey: The Rising, where he was supposed to sport long hair. So, Aamir Khan did not sign any other project until he finished filming for Mangal Pandey: The Rising, directed by Ketan Mehta.
Based on the 1999 Kargil War, Lakshya tells the story of an aimless and lazy young man who eventually becomes a hero on the battlefield after joining the Indian Army. The film features Hrithik Roshan in the lead role, with Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta playing important characters. Prabhu Deva won the National Film Award for Best Choreography for the song Main Aisa Kyun Hoon from Lakshya.
In 2011, Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar collaborated once again for the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, directed by Zoya Akhtar. The movie also features Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif, and Kalki Koechlin in significant roles. In 2012, Farhan Akhtar produced Reema Kagti’s edge-of-the-seat thriller, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within, which starred Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Rani Mukerji in lead roles.
