Human bones washed up along the Brooklyn Bridge Park shoreline this week — marking at least the fifth time remains have been recovered from the shore in the past few months, officials said Friday.
A representative of the city medical examiner’s office told The Post that all of the body parts — found just steps away from the iconic Jane’s Carousel — were believed to be from the same person.
In the most recent gruesome discovery, what is believed to be a pelvic bone was discovered stuck between rocks near the East River near Water and Dock Streets in DUMBO around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, police and sources said.
A spokesperson for the ME’s office confirmed on Friday that all the remains of skeletal parts found over the past four months were “believed to be those of the same individual”.
“It is believed that the remains were washed up there due to the high tide,” the spokesman said.
He added, “This individual has not yet been identified, but our team will use all the advanced forensic science tools available to us (dental analysis, taking DNA from the bone) to make an identification.”
first terrible discovery Made on the morning of August 19 by an employee of the city Parks and Recreation Department. Police and sources said the remains – including a skull – were covered with clothing, and a pair of shoes were also recovered nearby.
After two days, second bone What authorities said was described as a leg or part of it – was discovered in the same area.
Several days later, on August 31, more bone fragments were found along the shoreline, police said.
Additional remains were discovered in the same area on September 27, WPIX reported In those days.
ME’s forensic anthropology unit experts told The Post in September The size and shape of the bones appear to indicate that the remains belong to a male – particularly the pelvic bones, which are smaller in males than in females.
Experts found no signs of foul play.
The ME’s office is asking for tips from the public as they work to identify who the remains belong to.
