Real reason behind Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales’ shock decision

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ home Adelaide Cottage is considered small by royal standards, with no room for a live-in nanny as their three children grow up — but it is completely by choice.

According to a royal expert, Prince William and Princess Kate have strategically opted to keep their staff small and have their home be as normal as possible to protect their family’s privacy.

The couple and their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, moved into the four-bedroom home on the Windsor estate in 2022, departing Kensington Palace.

Adelaide Cottage is a 19th-century Grade II-listed heritage home located close to Windsor Castle on the 665-acre royal estate.

Royal expert and author Katie Nicholl discussed the couple’s need for privacy with journalists Erin Vanderhoof and Claire Howarth on the Dynasty podcast, observing that Prince William had begun to shift into a more senior royal role in the last 12 months.

“The truth is he’s got a lot of worries,” Nicholl said.

“But knowing what I know about his personality, he’s practical, he’s pragmatic, he’s optimistic, just like his father.

“He is a real optimist in life and he also has his grandmother’s (Queen Elizabeth) ability to compartmentalise and that’s how he copes with life.”

In response, Vanderhoof said: “This whole year I’ve been kind of reminded by the story of when they first moved to Adelaide Cottage … it’s a four-bedroom house in Windsor inside the home park within in the security ring and it doesn’t have space for a nanny.

“I remember that there was some kind of internet comment like ‘Oh, however, will they live without their nanny!’

“But I think what’s very important for me about that detail is just remembering, you know I think that we have this sense of them as having fabulous lifestyles, and all the people in the kitchen.”

“While the huge staff is the case in the castles, for the most part, they have lived without a lot of people around them, partially because they do want to protect their privacy.”

At the time of the 2022 move, a source told The Sun, “Kate and William were very keen for a modest home to start their new lives in Windsor.

“Adelaide Cottage fits the bill because it is a four-bedroom home and they do not need any more as they have no live-in staff.”

“The reality is they are quite confined in what they can do in London.

“The kids can’t go into the park and kick a football with friends.

“Their plan is to be there for the next 10 to 15 years and then move to Anmer, which is so special to them.”

Anmer Hall is the Wales’ house in Norfolk where they often holiday, two hours’ drive from London.
