Neighbors said Rothschild, who was in his late 70s, lived in the two-bedroom house with his Afghan hunting dog.
According to the outlet, they described him as a reclusive and eccentric millionaire who owned multiple properties on the same street and several expensive vintage cars.
“It’s very sad,” said Jim Moore, who lives nearby. “He was a good guy. A good neighbor.”
Some neighbors said they had never laid eyes on the reclusive Rothschild and had assumed the property was vacant.
The Rothschild family made their fortune by establishing banks across Europe from the late 1700s.
He has an estimated net worth of around $1 billion.
Real estate listings show the burned 825-square-foot home was valued at nearly $1 million.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fire and officials said the incident was under investigation.
It took 45 firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will formally identify the man and determine his cause of death, officials said.
