What is in a name?
A few billion dollars – if you choose wisely.
Brayden, Kayden and Jayden are definitely cool baby names for boys today.
But when it comes to attracting capital, breaking the mold is the name of the game, according to a new study on billionaire babies.
“We were curious to see if there was any connection between name and billionaire status,” SEO expert Julian Goldie said,
Digital Marketing Pro analyzed the Bloomberg Billionaires Index to determine which names appear most frequently in the top 500 billionaires.
They found that traditional tags like “John” and “David” are often given to the world’s richest people.
“The results can help prospective parents prepare their young children for future financial success,” said the UK’s Goldie. “Even if there’s no guarantee he’ll be the next Mark Zuckerberg.”
That’s a 10-figure sum that most moms and dads wouldn’t mind bringing home from the hospital.
The name Buzzy Baby has already started trending among moms giving birth in 2025.
A recent report from BabyCenter listed soil names Like Eclipse, Sol and Orion are popular unisex names for the upcoming Gen Betas – little ones who make their debut between next year and 2039.
But Laura Wattenberg, founder of Namerology, recently agreed with Goldie, saying that tried-and-tested titles like Scotty and Stevie will come into vogue Time to change the calendar.
“It’s the same old sound,” Wattenberg said, “but in a kind of miniature style.”
However, Goldie’s list of the 10 most golden names is anything but short. In fact, all the big names are inspired by the Big Guy above.
“John and David top the list with 12 billionaires each,” the study said, “while holders of the Mark name have the highest average wealth with $41.2 billion.”
“These classic Biblical names claim the top spot for billionaire frequency,” the report continued, perhaps suggesting there’s something special about these timeless choices.
Goldie acknowledges notable tycoons such as John Rees, who made his fortune in chemicals with Ineos, and shipping magnate John Fredrickson.
The world’s top earners, including British billionaire David Reuben, also earn some of the shine.
And Zuckerberg, who boasts an impressive net worth of around $198.3 billion, holds it up well for Marks the world over.
“Names like John, David and Michael have stood the test of time, appearing frequently among both historical figures and modern business titans,” Goldie said.
Here are the names of top money making boys and their net worth:
- John – $155.3 billion
- David – $118 billion
- Thomas – $100.2 billion
- Michael – $147.1 billion
- Wang – $48.8 billion
- Mark – $205.8 billion
- Charles – $99 billion
- Zhang – $82.5 billion
- Richard – $33.6 billion
- Jim – $114.6 billion
Of course, success is more likely to be driven by other factors, Goldie said.
“Whether you name your baby Mark, Michael, or something completely different,” he said, “the keys to success have more to do with opportunity, innovation, and determination than what’s written on their birth certificate!”
