Two police officers were shot Thursday afternoon in the Lower East Side, according to law-enforcement sources.
One suspect was in custody, the sources said.
The wounded officers were taken to Bellevue Hospital. One of them was shot in the leg, according to the sources.
Their exact conditions and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear.
But sources said it began as an armed robbery at a store on Canal Street, near Eldridge Street, and that the cops were injured as they chased the suspect up toward Delancey Street.
