There was a 3 year old boy found dead in a septic tank Police said the incident occurred over the weekend after the couple was playing in the backyard.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department told FOX 13 Seattle that the young child — who was a resident of Lakewood, Washington — was pronounced dead after being pulled from the tank around 3 p.m. on Monday. Authorities were notified of the incident around 2:20 p.m. that day.
Investigators believe the boy was playing with his 4-year-old brother and a 6-year-old neighbor before he fell into the neighbor's septic tank.
It is said that the child had removed the lid of the tank before falling into it.
Her brother immediately went inside and alerted their grandmother, who called the police.
“Detectives and forensic investigators were called to the scene to document the incident,” Sergeant Darren Moss said in a statement.
Officers told FOX 13 an adult went in and out of the home with them.
The Tacoma News Tribune reported that the tank was “the size of a sewer manhole”, about three feet in diameter.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department for more information but did not receive an immediate response.
Officers are actively investigating the incident. No additional information is available at this time.
