3-year-old South Carolina girl crushed to death by bird bath

A 3-year-old girl in South Carolina was crushed to death after a bird bath apparently fell on top of her, authorities said.

The toddler, Jasmine Denise Mikell, suffered “blunt force injury” to her abdomen when the accident unfolded at a home in Warrenville last Saturday night, WRDW reported.

First responders had rushed to the scene after receiving reports the little girl had been “crushed” by the bath, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said.

They found the little girl’s family in the middle of the road with the child and immediately began doing compressions.

Jasmine was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, where she was pronounced dead the following day.

Authorities are calling her death a “tragic accident”, but the coroner, sheriff’s office and the state’s South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are probing her death.

No one has been charged.

The little girl’s obituary described her as bringing “joy to anyone that she met.”

“Even though she was only here for a short time, the impact that she had on people will never be forgotten,” the obituary said.

“She loved honey grahams, candy, swimming, and trips to the park.”
