Five family members, including three children, were found dead in a Utah home on Tuesday, and another 17-year-old was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, police said.
The dead were two adults, an 11-year-old boy and two girls, ages 9 and 2, according to West Valley City Police Department spokeswoman Roxanne Vainuku. It was not immediately clear how he died.
They were found at a West Valley City home, about 9 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. The teen was discovered in the garage.
“Absolutely horrifying. This is something that will certainly weigh heavily on investigators in this case,” Wainuku said at an overnight press conference.
He added that authorities do not believe there are any suspects at large and that the shooting was “an isolated incident at this home.”
Venuku said because the 17-year-old “is injured and he’s in the hospital, there are some challenges in communicating with him and getting more information.”
Officials said a relative informed police on Monday after unsuccessfully trying to reach the 38-year-old woman who lived in the house. Officers went to the home, but no one responded.
They returned Tuesday afternoon after the same relative reported finding a 17-year-old boy in the garage.
Police are investigating inside the home, talking to neighbors and looking for evidence through things like doorbell cameras, Venuku said.
