Ahead of the November 5 election, Trump held a rally inside Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, attended by thousands of his supporters. The program became controversial when 40-year-old comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a joke about Puerto Rico.
“There’s a lot going on. There’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico,” he said of the U.S. territory.
Hinchcliffe’s joke was deemed racist and several famous Latinos, including Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin, showed their support for Trump’s opponent Kamala Harris in response.
Harris’ VP-elect Tim Walz, who was doing a live Twitch gaming session with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) during the rally, was also upset about the comment.
“You have some people calling Puerto Rico ‘floating trash,’ know that they think the same thing about you. They think the same thing about anyone who makes less money than they do,” said Walz, 60. .
While many celebrities are supporting Harris, 60, for president, 50 Cent has not declared his allegiance to any candidate in the election.
In March, 50 Cent predicted on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump would be re-elected president.
The rapper previously asked his followers to “vote for Trump” instead of Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election – though he later withdrew his support.
