Thieves stole $500,000 worth of jewelry from a tourist visiting a pizza shop in Queens – but they were quickly caught by police thanks to an Apple AirTag in the victim’s suitcase.
According to the NYPD, Sandro Angiolini decided to stop at Rosa’s Pizza in Astoria for something to eat — with a suitcase filled with jewelry worth approximately $500,000.
As 50-year-old Angiolini walked from his car towards the pizza joint, he was immediately stopped by several men in a black SUV.
Police sources said the men pushed Angiolini to the ground, beat him and fled with a fully loaded silver suitcase.
The crooks then jumped back into the SUV and attacked her – but what they didn’t know was that the bag was equipped with an Apple AirTag, which tracks location.
NYPD investigators were able to track the vehicle to 217th Street in Bayside, where they recovered a suitcase full of jewelry and arrested two suspects in connection with the strong-arm robbery.
Brian Pulido, 23, and Sandy Pulido, 22, were arrested and now face multiple charges.
According to the NYPD, each is being charged with criminal possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and a windshield tint violation.
Bryan faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.
Police sources say that many people are still absconding in connection with the robbery.
