Six people were injured in a fiery wrong-way crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester early Monday morning — while the driver of a car in the wrong lane fought for his life, according to police.
Photos of the crash, which happened in the northbound lanes of the parkway in Rye Brook just after midnight, show cars badly damaged and one torn into pieces.
The driver of the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Westchester Medical Center, according to police.
Five people in the other car were also taken to Westchester Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
According to police, vehicles were cleared around 6:30 a.m. and the northbound lanes of the parkway were closed, with traffic redirected onto Lincoln Avenue.
All six northbound lanes on the Hutchinson River Parkway have reopened, Westchester News 12 reported.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation by the Westchester County Police Department Accident Investigation Team and detectives from the General Investigation Unit.
