Three men accused of helping plot the Sept. 11 terror attacks currently awaiting trial at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba – including alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed –- have accepted plea deals with the Convening Authority for Military Commissions.
The terror suspects will be spared the death penalty as part of the plea agreement, 9/11 victims’ families tell The Post.
“The Convening Authority for Military Commissions has entered into pretrial agreements with Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi, three of the co-accused in the 9/11 case,” an Office of Military Commissions (OMC) spokesperson confirmed to The Post Wednesday.
OMC said the specific terms and conditions of the pretrial agreements were not immediately available. The defendants stand accused of providing training, financial support and other assistance to the 19 terrorists who hijacked passenger jets and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pa. on Sept. 11, 2001.
