The injunction threatens the Brazilian subsidiaries of Adele’s two labels, Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music, with fines of up to $US8000 ($A12,800) for “per act of non-compliance”.
Sony and Universal can still appeal the decision.
Torres’s injunction, obtained by AFP on Monday, ruled that the label must stop “immediately and globally, using, reproducing, editing, distributing or commercializing the hit.”
He said, “It is a milestone for Brazilian music, which has often been copied to create successful international hits.”
Million Years Ago appeared on Adele’s 25 album in 2015, although the UK star has been accused of lifting from the samba classic Mulheres by Martinho da Vila.
The song’s composer Toninho Geras first sued Adele and her music producer Greg Kurstin in 2021.
Gerace is suing for lost royalties, $US160,000 in moral damages, as well as songwriting credits on Adele’s track.
Sony Brazil said it had “no statement at this time”, while Universal Music Brazil did not immediately respond to AFP’s request for comment.
Adele has not yet reacted to the decision.
The decision will come in just a few weeks Adele ended her final weekend with the Adele Show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace after 100 concerts at the venue.
She said on November 23, “It’s been amazing and I’ll miss it a lot, and I’ll miss you a lot.”
“The only thing I’m good at is singing. I don’t know when I want to be on stage next time but I love you.
Adele said her decision to do a residency instead of touring was inspired by her 11-year-old son, Angelo, whom she shares with ex-husband Simon Konecki.
“I chose to do residency so I could keep their lives normal,” he said. He said he was looking forward to spending his weekends with them again.
The proud mother addressed her son directly, saying: “I love you so much.”
She addresses her partner, sports agent Rich Paul, thanking him for “always choosing me and making me feel like I can do what I want to do”.
Adele first announced her residency in December 2021.
“See you at Caesars in Vegas ❤️,” she wrote on Instagram and posted a residency poster and a photo of herself performing.
It was famously postponed a day before the first concert in January 2022, telling fans in a tearful video that “my show isn’t ready”.
“We have done everything we can to get it ready on time and good enough for you, but we have been completely devastated by delivery delays and COVID,” he said at the time.
