Renowned legal scholar Alan Dershowitz recently announced that he is leaving the Democratic Party because he is “disgusted” by what he has seen over the past month. Democratic National Convention,
retired Harvard Law School professor, who has long Self-proclaimed liberal democrattold radio host Zev Brenner on August 23 that he thought the Chicago conference was “the worst conference in American history” because many of the speakers publicly expressed opposition to Israel.
“They had more anti-Semitic, anti-Zionist people speaking out, starting with (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) — a miserable, anti-Zionist fanatic,” Dershowitz said at an event “Talkline with Zev Brenner.” “Then of course they had (Sen. Elizabeth) Warren, who is one of the most anti-Semites in the Senate. Then they had Bernie Sanders, who is one of the most anti-Semites in the Senate.”
Dershowitz argued that the Democratic Party has “legitimized” anti-Israel arguments by allowing those who support them to speak at the convention.
He explained, “By giving her a platform, it's saying that when AOC calls Israel a genocidal country and speaks out against it, she now has the approval of the Democratic Party.”
“I was disappointed by the Democratic National Convention. Absolutely disappointed,” he said.
“I'm no longer a Democrat. I'm an independent candidate,” he said, though he did not say who he plans to vote for on Election Day.
“I'll decide who to vote for at the last minute, depending on the circumstances,” Dershowitz said. “I want to see how they deal with Iran. I want to see how they deal with Iran's attacks on the United States. I want to encourage the current administration to support Israel. So I won't reveal my vote until, you know, maybe November 1.”
Dershowitz, who faced criticism from the left for defending former President Donald Trump during his first impeachment trial, had indicated he was “slowly” moving away from the Democratic Party, but this convention was like the nail in the coffin.
“I can't be associated with a party whose speakers are AOC, (Al) Sharpton, Liz Warren and Bernie Sanders,” he said. “That's not my party.”
