Serena Williams’ husband and Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian has revealed that he had half of his thyroid removed.
On Thanksgiving, the father of two, 41, shared an update about his health with fans on social media, saying he underwent preventative surgery after “keeping an eye on some suspicious lumps” over the past four years.
“The lumps were getting larger and the latest biopsy showed that they could turn into cancer,” he wrote. on Instagram,
“My mother had breast cancer around the same age (41) and then eventually died of brain cancer a decade or so later. I hate cancer.”
Noting that the process was “smooth”, Ohanian highlighted how important it is for people to be vigilant about their health.
“Half of my now removed thyroid was actually filled with some lumpy lumps that had a very high chance of becoming cancerous,” she wrote alongside a selfie taken after surgery from her hospital bed.
She also included two photos of her daughters, Olympia, 6, and Adira, 1, in the carousel post.
He added, “The worst thing is not being able to lift for two weeks, but the big guys will be back next week and I took my girls to Disney World this week, so life is amazing.”
