'ALF' star Benji Gregory's cause of death revealed

The cause of death of “ALF” actor Benji Gregory has been revealed.

The former child star died of “environmental heat exposure due to liver cirrhosis,” according to records from the medical examiner’s office in Maricopa County, Arizona, viewed by The Post.

Gregory's death was ruled an accident.

The actor died on June 13 at the age of 46. He was found in his car in the parking lot of a Chase Bank in Peoria, Arizona.

Hepatic cirrhosis, also known as liver cirrhosis, is a permanent scarring that damages your liver and hinders its functioning. Cleveland ClinicThis can lead to liver failure. Cirrhosis is the result of continued damage to the liver over many years.

Gregory's sister, Rebecca Hertzberg-Pfaffinger, confirmed his death. a facebook post on July 10 via his brother's page.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I have to share that my family has suffered a loss too soon,” he wrote.

“Ben was a wonderful son, brother and uncle. He was fun to be with and made us laugh often. Even now, when I look back at his things, I find myself laughing at his little videos or notes, and sometimes even crying.”

“My brother Ben was found in his car with his beloved service dog, Hans, who died on June 13,” he said. “We believe he went there on the evening of the 12th to deposit some remains (that were found in his car) and he never got out of the car to do so. He fell asleep and died from heatstroke from exposure to the vehicle.”

After his death, Rebecca told TMZ Gregory suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and a sleep disorder that kept him awake for days. He said his brother's dog also died because of the extreme heat.

On the day of Gregory's death, temperatures in Peoria, Arizona reportedly reached 107 degrees. According to AccuWeather,

Gregory, born Benjamin Hertzberg, played young Brian Tanner on “ALF” for all four seasons of the NBC hit from 1986-1990.
