It would be a shame not to recognize Innersloth’s masterpiece when discussing multiplayer games. Initially launched in 2018, Among Us peaked in popularity due to its simple yet creative social deduction-type gameplay. Since then, many new additions have been made to the game, but the classic characters remain the same. If you’re just starting out with Among Us but are confused by all the characters, keep reading our dedicated guide below.
All Among Us Character Colors
While the Among Us color characters have no significance, you can change them from the game’s launch screen. Unlike any other game characters, such as Valorant characters, the names are selected based on the appearance color.
Each player at the party will have to choose a unique color so no two players look the same. You can also use different hats, pets, or other customizations to make your character different.
Among Us has a total of 18 color characters to choose from right now. Here are all the Among Us character names based on their colors:
- Red
- Blue
- Green
- Pink
- Orange
- Yellow
- Black
- White
- Purple
- Brown
- Cyan
- Lime
- Maroon
- Rose
- Banana
- Gray

Among Us Character Roles
While colors help you identify the characters, they are also divided into different roles. Among Us, characters are divided into seven different roles. However, the lobby admin must enable the extra roles to get more than Crewmate, Impostor, and Ghost in the game. Here are all the roles in Among Us and what they do:
1. Crewmate
The most common role in the game is the Crewmate. These are the most innocent creatures who cannot do anything except complete their task. Crewmates can complete tasks faster to win the game. They can also report dead bodies or call for a vote. In the voting phase, Crewmates can eliminate any player by voting them out.
2. Impostor
The one Among Us character we never want to run into is the Impostor. They will pretend to do tasks, report dead bodies, or try to play innocent. But when the time is right, they will strike. Their sabotaging skills can make the lives of the Crewmates harder on the ship. That is why you look for the vents and act instinctually to spot these pesky creatures. Otherwise, the whole crew will be wiped out.
3. Ghost
While not assigned by default, Ghost is a role that all Crewmates should expect. Once the Impostor consumes a Crewmate, they become Ghosts. Luckily, Ghosts can complete their tasks and help in winning the game. However, they cannot talk or communicate and participate in the voting.
4. Guardian Angel
The first Crewmate to die becomes a Guardian Angel in Among Us. It will work only if the admin enables it from the lobby settings. The power of the Guardian Angel is right in their name. They can shield a Crewmate whenever they are about to die. However, do keep an eye out for the shield’s cooldown. You can also keep doing your tasks like a regular Ghost.
5. Engineer
Unlike the Guardian Angel, an Engineer is assigned when you start the game. They are the special Crewmates who can use vents just like the Impostors. Although their abilities have a cooldown, they can reverse the security camera footage. That is a great help for the common Crewmates to vote the Impostors out faster.
6. Scientist
If a game is filled with high-class Impostors who can kill Crewmates at the right spot by hiding their bodies, Scientists are specifically for those games. Scientist is a moving vitals panel. They can track the vitals without going to a separate machine for that. It is a great addition to the Crewmates. Unfortunately, the Scientist’s vitals device needs to be charged by completing tasks.
7. Shapeshifter
This is one of the strongest Among Us characters. Shapeshifters can switch their appearance completely by using their ability. Despite a huge cooldown, it is hard to find the original Crewmate if the Shapeshifter transforms themselves. Luckily, not all Impostors are Shapeshifters, and only one is assigned before the game starts.
That is everything you should know about Among Us characters. So, are you dropping in Mira HQ as Red or shapeshifting as Blue before you commit some impostor crimes? Tell us in the comments below.
According to the Innersloth Among Us lore, Impostors are alien shapeshifters who kill Crewmates by stabbing, shooting, impaling, etc.
In Among Us, colors do not define an Impostor. However, in several games or mods where Pink has appeared, she has played the role of an Impostor, such as in Friday Night Funkin’ V.
