August 22nd will mark 15 years since the beloved UK rock outfit Oasis played their last show before breaking up. Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, the band’s founding members and lead songwriters, had a rather rocky history even prior to breaking up the band in 2009, but their distaste for one another has been more public in the years following the band’s end. However, as it goes for all great bands that breakup, fans have tenaciously held on to the possibility of Oasis reuniting, despite the brothers previously insisting it’ll never happen.
While this certainly may be the case, the tension between the Gallagher brothers seem to have dwindled in recent years, and there’s even signs that Liam Gallagher might be interested in reuniting. These signs don’t come from Liam himself but are indicated from his son, Gene Gallagher. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Gene commented when asked about his thoughts on if Oasis will reunite. “Nothing to do with me. I mean, will they? I don’t know. I would love it but it’s so beyond my control.” Gene stated.
Gene was then asked if he’s been told to keep quiet regarding reunion talks, to which he replied, “No, no. I get the feeling my dad wants it too. Let’s hope it happens.”
Sure, these comments don’t add anything concrete, but they certainly add to other evidence that a reunion might be boiling — in June, a reserved seat for Noel Gallagher was spotted at one of Liam Gallagher’s solo shows. While there’s been no recent commentary from Noel’s side regarding an Oasis reunion, the fact Liam seems interested makes the possibility of a reunion more optimistic.
Furthermore, 2024 and 2025 could be the most optimal years for the band to reunite as each year celebrates a significant anniversary for the band — 2024 marks the 30 year anniversary of Oasis’s debut LP, Definitely Maybe, and 2025 marks the 30 year anniversary for their seminal sophomore LP (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? Both albums are the most critically acclaimed and influential albums in the band’s discography, so in theory if Oasis were to reunite, celebrating their history with the anniversary of these records could be the best way to maximize this reunion.
Of course, all theories and evidence behind an Oasis reunion is all speculation, and there’s been no concrete evidence from either of the Gallagher brothers on if it’s actually going to happen. However, there are certainly strong signs that point to a reunion being a possibility, and at the very least it’s the most optimistic things have ever sounded regarding a reunion.
