Android has received a ton of changes over the past few years. While some focus on enhancing the overall UI and functionality, others worked to make it more user-friendly. A report now suggests, Android 15 could get a better landscape mode experience on the lock screen and notifications panel. Here’s everything you need to know.
The issue with the current landscape lock screen layout is, well, there is a landscape lock screen layout in Android. As for the notifications panel, the space isn’t used to the fullest. If you have tons of notifications, swiping up to go through them can sometimes close the notifications panel. Besides, options like the brightness slider, user switcher, and other controls are missing in landscape mode.
Android expert Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority) shared that he was able to enable upcoming changes to Android 15’s landscape mode on both the lock screen and notifications panel. Here’s what the notifications panel looks like (before and after) in landscape mode on an unlocked device.
This isn’t something to write home about because custom UIs such as Nothing OS, Oxygen OS, and all the major UIs have had better landscape notification layouts for years now, some have had it since their inception. If anything, this change has been overdue for years, and we’re glad Google is finally addressing the same.
Mishaal first spotted the UIs in Android 14 QPR1 Beta 1 and QPR2 Beta 2 updates and said the UIs were still not ready and had bugs in them. The media player overlaps with the lock screen shortcut and the At a Glance widget. Google should hopefully fix these issues and ready the changes till Android 15’s stable release.
