Far-left “Squad” Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (D- Mass.) are standing by President Biden as other Democrats have called on the commander in chief to drop his reelection bid.
Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of Queens and the Bronx, told reporters on Monday she supports the 81-year-old president after speaking with him “extensively.”
“He made clear then, and he has made clear since that he is in this race,” she said. “The matter is closed.”
“He has reiterated that this morning,” she said in reference to a letter Biden sent congressional Democrats. “He has reiterated that to the public. Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race and I support him.”
The progressive firebrand then attacked former President Donald Trump and his criminal conviction while also stressing the White House needs to focus on helping working people.
Pressley also showed support for Biden on Capitol Hill on Monday.
“We are losing the plot,” she said, according to an Axios reporter. “Joe Biden is the nominee.”
And Omar said besides a “few outliers I think everybody is supporting the president,” according to Bloomberg.
Biden insisted on Monday in a letter to congressional Democrats he is “firmly committed” to staying in the 2024 race for the White House even as a handful of House Democrats have called on him to pass the baton following his disastrous debate performance.
Four senior House leaders reportedly told colleagues on Sunday the commander in chief should leave the race over fears they don’t believe he can beat Trump in November.
