according to Latest Reports According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), Apple Watch Ultra models outsell the more affordable Apple Watch SE. Despite the premium price and niche market, the Apple Watch Ultra managed to garner more sales than the SE. I think one possible reason for the poor sales of the Apple Watch SE is the lack of features it offers.
The Cupertino tech giant did not add enough features to justify the upgrade. There is not much of a price difference between the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch SE. By spending an additional $120, a user can enjoy a better display and advanced health-tracking features that are not available in the SE.
A New report from Mark Gurman There are suggestions that Apple will launch the Apple Watch SE 3 with a plastic shell to cut down production costs and the retail price will be around $200. The low-cost plastic material allows for a rich gamut of color selection and gives Apple the freedom to include additional features if they want. In this article, I have written down 5 such features that the Apple Watch SE 3 must have to make it a great upgrade. Let’s move on!
1. Always On Display
While the Apple Watch SE is affordable and versatile, that smartwatch has one major drawback—the always-on display. When the Apple Watch SE screen is not in use, you will see a large, completely dark expanse with nothing on it. This not only limits functionality but also gets frustrating when you can't see the time at a glance. I personally find it very annoying when I have to either touch the screen or lift my wrist to see the time. The always-on display looks more modern and attractive, and its absence might upset a smartwatch fan.
Well, asking for an always-on display on the Apple Watch SE isn’t too much considering the fact that Apple has offered the feature since the launch of the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019. Now that it’s been 5 years, it’s time for Apple to offer an upgraded display on the upcoming Apple Watch SE model.
2. QWERTY keyboard
The Apple Watch SE display has enough space to comfortably read news headlines or notifications, but lacks the larger display found on the Apple Watch Series 9 or Series 8 models. While this is perfectly fine and won't make much of a difference for everyone, you may miss the on-screen QWERTY keyboard if you've ever used one before. On the Apple Watch SE 2, you can type words or use dictation to convert your letters or speech into digital text.
The QWERTY keyboard gives you the freedom to respond to texts quickly even when you are away from your iPhone. It is important to know that Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5 which comes in a 40mm display option and costs about the same, has a digital keyboard. With the upcoming Apple Watch SE, I wish Apple finds a way to include a digital keyboard in the 40mm option as well.
3. Double-tap feature
Last year, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 came with a new gesture-based feature called “Double Tap,” which allows you to control various functions of your smartwatch by pressing your thumb and index finger together. You can easily Use double tap on Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 To activate the shutter button in the Camera app, turn off alarms, accept or end calls, and more.
While there are several ways to Get double tap feature on Apple Watch SE 2The functionality is limited. On the SE, you can only use the double tap feature when prompted. For example, you can hang up the call when you see the blue “End Call” prompt on your Watch SE. On the other hand, the Apple Watch Series 9 double tap feature lets you do a lot of things. The feature not only looks futuristic but also brings a lot of features. I wish Apple could add native double-tap functionality to the upcoming Apple Watch SE 3.
4. More health tracking features
Let's face it. The biggest disappointment with the SE model is the lack of health monitoring features. While the Apple Watch SE 2 can track your workouts, it has a heart rate sensor, and it comes with Fall detection & noise monitoring, this is not the best smartwatch for fitness and health tracking.
To be specific, three useful trackers and sensors- electrocardiogram (ECG), blood oxygen sensing and temperature sensing are missing in the SE model. These features help give you in-depth information about your health and overall well-being. Works with blood oxygen Sleep Tracking And temperature sensing helps with ovulation tracking by taking temperature readings every five seconds throughout the night while you sleep.
We know that Apple has cut down on the ECG, blood oxygen, and temperature sensing features to make the SE model affordable. But, this could be a big deal breaker for those who want to keep track of their respiratory and heart health so that they can share that data with their doctors. Now that the Cupertino tech giant is planning to switch to a plastic shell to reduce costs, it should add all the advanced health tracking features to make the Apple Watch SE 3 a major upgrade.
5. Fast charging support
Last but not least, I would like to see fast charging support in the upcoming Apple Watch SE 3. Apple introduced fast charging on its smartwatch lineup with the Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021. Since then, every Apple Watch has supported this feature except for the SE model. If there is one. the thing to hate The biggest feature of Apple Watch is its battery.
You will definitely agree with me that most Apple Watches (except Ultra) have poor battery life. You have to charge it every night to ensure it works the next day. I think fast charging support is a must-have feature so that your smartwatch can spend more time on your wrist and not on the charger.
In my opinion, these are the 5 features that Apple should add to the upcoming Apple Watch SE 3. The current SE 2 feels like a general-purpose smartwatch and a great fitness tracker. I hope Apple takes the upcoming SE 3 in a more modern and health-focused direction to make it a solid upgrade over the current models. Otherwise, the giant should prepare itself for sluggish sales like the SE 2.
