Apple Won’t Launch a Smart Ring Because “It’s Hard to Do”, Says Oura CEO

Smart rings are becoming increasingly popular in the wearables sector. Although they are not as feature-packed as smartwatches, they are still an excellent choice for those who prefer simple and compact wearables with long battery life. This year Samsung also joins the smart rings league with its Galaxy RingSince then, there have been strong rumors that Apple will also come out with its much-awaited Apple Ring, but the CEO of Ora clearly does not think so and some of his reasons take a direct dig at the Cupertino tech giant.

Ora CEO Tom Hale disagrees that Apple has any plans to enter the smart ring market because an Apple-designed ring could undermine its Apple Watch business.

In an interview with CNBCHale said “I think they are [Apple] Possibly “not convinced about the value of putting the ring and watch together, and they’re not interested in undermining the Apple Watch as a business”He said that although Apple is keeping a close eye on Aura and Samsung, it is difficult to get this product line right.

Hale further explained, “Apple is a very focused company. They are as follows: ‘We have placed our bet on the clock. We are going to make the watch our platform.

Oura launched its first smart ring in 2015, becoming one of the best names in the smart ring space. They recently launched its next generation Ora Ring 4, a wearable that can track activity, health, sleep, and stress.

Tom Hale certainly makes a good point – smart rings are a direct competitor to smartwatches. Some may even see it as the best smartwatch alternative. If Apple comes out with a smart ring, it could deplete the sales of the Apple Watch as the ring will have many of the same features as the watch. Previously, we heard that Apple’s industrial team proposed the idea of a smart ring that could become a low-cost alternative to the Apple Watch, but Apple executives were not interested in it.

Even though Hale has a valid point, Apple is known for creating different platforms across its product categories. Apple already makes several types of Macs – MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro. We also have different iPads – iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro. It even makes separate Apple Watches with standard and Ultra lineups. Different products in each category appeal to different users with certain needs. Apple could follow its usual strategy of launching an Apple Ring that attracts a different type of user – someone who isn’t interested in smartwatches.

we have heard many things apple ring rumorsBut the company has no plans to launch it soon. In October, Mark Gurman also reported that there is no active development and that Apple has no plans to launch a Ring.

Despite all the rumors and claims from competitors, Apple may eventually launch a smart ring if demand increases. The Cupertino tech giant has patented the ring-like devices, but there’s no timeline for when or if the idea will turn into an actual product.
