The Australian city is the first stop on the global Journey Through Oz Tour, which will see themed premieres in five international cities.
The Premiere Tour promises to immerse audiences in the dazzling world of Wicked, starting with a stunning tribute to Munchkinland, one of the film’s most beloved locations.
The Sydney event will include key stars from the film: Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award-winning artist Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, and Grammy-winning global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda.
She will be joined by co-stars Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Marisa Bode, Ethan Slater and the film’s director Jon M. Chu.
Grande and Erivo announced the news in a video message to fans: “Hi Australia! We have something exciting to share.
“We’re heading to Australia to unveil our new movie, Wicked!”. Grande said, before Goldblum and Chu appeared.
“Hey Sydney! We are thrilled that Australia will be the first stop on our global tour. “We can’t wait for you to experience the magic of Wicked on the big screen,” said Director Chu.
“We have some more surprise guests who will be joining us down below, so keep an eye out.”
Following the Sydney event, the Wicked Tour will continue with a Los Angeles premiere, reimagined with an Enchanted Forest theme, at Shiez University, Mexico City, a glamorous screening at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and concluding in London. Will take place, where Emerald City will play the lead role.
Australian audiences can attend limited preview screenings for a special “Wicked Wednesday” in cinemas across the country on November 20.
