Artem Chigvintsev is reportedly asking his estranged wife Nikki Garcia (aka Nikki Bella) to be granted joint custody of their son and spousal support.
The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro laid out her demands in documents filed with the court on Friday, according to documents obtained by . our weeklyChigvintsev was responding to Bella's divorce petition, which she submitted two days earlier, on Wednesday, September 11.
Bella filed for divorce just weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested on domestic violence charges. Prosecutors have not said whether they intend to file charges.
Chigvintsev cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup of his and Bella's marriage. His court filings list the couple's separation date as August 29, the day he was arrested by the sheriff in Napa County, California.
Chigvintsev and Bella have a 4-year-old son named Matteo. Bella has sought legal and physical custody of her only child.
The “DWTS” alumnus, in addition to seeking joint custody and spousal support, is asking the former “Total Divas” star to pay her attorneys’ fees and costs.
In documents viewed by US Weekly, Chigvintsev is reportedly claiming “potential spouse” status for a period beginning on August 26, 2022, and ending on January 19, 2023.
A potential spouse is someone who is in a legally invalid marriage, even if they believe they are married in the eyes of the law. Although Chigvintsev and Bella married in a lavish ceremony in Paris, France in August 2022, they will not be able to legally marry in the US until January 2023, according to court documents.
