Astronauts stuck in space for 49 days by malfunctioning Boeing spacecraft can’t return home for weeks

There is still no set return date for the two astronauts stuck aboard the International Space Station for 49 days after Boeing’s Starliner suffered helium leaks following its maiden crewed launch, officials said.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were meant to spend just eight days in space.

But now they expected to stay in orbit for several more weeks, Steve Stich, NASA’s Commercial Crew Program manager, told reporters during a teleconference.

Officials said they will be able to ride the Starliner spacecraft home, but not until sometime in August.
