Speaking on KIIS 97.3’s Robin & Kip show, the 2003 Australian Idol winner revealed that when the kids were younger he devised an ingenious method of halting any dummy spits.
“When they blow up, I would mimic them,” he said.
“So even at, like, two years old or one and a half years old, I think, (the time) when a kid realises how stupid they sound when they’re blowing up.
“It’s weirdly worked with my kids. They’d be screaming and I would just do the same thing at them.
“It’s almost like it was confronting for them so much that they’d look at me and just go, ‘Is that what I sound like’?
“And then they would just stop.”
Opening up on other aspects of parenting, the I Chose Good singer said he struggled with “Dad guilt” when he was away on tour.
“Me touring, going away, I’d feel so bad because people would think, ‘Oh, I’m playing shows every night, it must be so tiring’,” he said.
“I’m like, no, no, no.
“Jules is doing all of that stuff (looking after the kids) alone.
“Yeah, I’m literally playing shows, sleeping in a hotel room, you know, with no noise.”
Guy and Jules Sebastian married in 2008.
The pair have known each other since they were 12 years old and began dating at 18.
“We’ve just been mates that want each other to win,” he said.
“And yeah, I’m pretty lucky because not everyone has that.
“It’s pretty rare, I reckon.”
Things weren’t always so rosy.
Last year, Sebastian admitted they broke up when he was 21 and he wasn’t sure if they would get back together, leaving him heartbroken.
“She broke up with me and then Idol happened and I moved to Sydney (from Adelaide) and I didn’t think we’d get back together, I wasn’t sure,” he told Sunrise.
Eventually Jules moved to Sydney too, and the rest is history.
Sebastian also revealed that he was Jules’ first and only boyfriend.
“That’s always a positive when she hasn’t got some other beautiful Latin lover or something to compare me to,” he joked.
Describing his wife, the singer said she was “very loving, very smart and emotionally intelligent”.
“I might blow up over something and it’s always Jules who is my calming force that will help me see things a bit more clearly,” he said.
“And me, her as well.
“I think we balance each other out well.
“I love her more now than ever, so it’s amazing.”
