Australian rock legend Peter Garrett calls out Taylor Swift over The Eras Tour details

Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett gave his “blunt” opinion on Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.

Ahead of Swift’s first Sydney show on Friday night, Garrett joined 107.1 SAFM’s Bec & Soda to discuss the concert.

Co-host Mark “Soda” Soderstrom told Garrett that he was “his Taylor Swift”.

Garrett and his Australian rock band Midnight Oil were at their peak in the 1980s with hits including Beds are Burning and Blue Sky Mine.

Acknowledging the comparison to Swift, Garrett said: “I’m not price gouging like Taylor, to be blunt”.

The former environment minister recalled a Midnight Oil concert in 1985, when tickets were priced at $15.90.

“I wouldn’t begrudge anyone’s success, that’s the first thing to say,” Garrett said.

“She’s obviously touching a chord with masses of people, particularly people of a certain age group who have experienced growing up at a certain time, and what she’s singing and talking about is really ringing true with them.”

Tickets for Swift’s concert range from $79.90 for G-reserve tickets to $379.90 for A-reserve.

The singer also offered various VIP packages, priced up to $1249.90, which all sold out.

Garrett, a longtime climate change activist, also called out Swift’s private jet use.

“She’s not setting a good example. I’m sure they could sit up the front of a Qantas plane or a Japan Airlines plane.

“Sometimes people just need to grow up a little and realise we do live on a finite planet with finite resources, and we can’t continue exacerbating the climate crisis — end of my rant on that one!”
