Netflix has renewed its live-action adaptation Avatar The Last Airbender Production on the second season is expected to begin in September 2024, with many of its cast members returning and, of course, plenty of new characters as well.
Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2 will see Team Avatar delving even deeper into the Earth Kingdom, specifically into the capital of Ba Sing Se, where Aang will try to master the skill of earthbending. During their journey, they will continue to be pursued by Prince Zuko and find trouble around every corner – including Ba Sing Se's rotten core. Meanwhile, Princess Azula has claimed Omashu, and Bumi has been imprisoned. All the while, Sozin's Comet, a rare cosmic phenomenon, continues to loom in the background.
Ahead of the new season, which is still some time away, let's take a look at what we can expect from our returning characters and which new faces will appear.
Returning characters from Season 1 to Season 2 Avatar The Last Airbender
Gordon Cormier – Aang
In Season 2, Aang will continue his quest to master all four elements, flying Appa to Ba Sing Se and continuing his Earth Kingdom adventures. The next batch of episodes will focus on mastering the skill of earthbending. He will also learn more about the Avatar State – the Avatar's unique power, which allows him to incorporate the powers and knowledge of all prior Avatars.
Kiawentiio as Katara and Ian Ousley as Sokka
It's not an Avatar adventure without Water Tribe siblings Katara and Sokka. In Season 2, their characters will develop further, adjusting to their new lives, continuing their adventures to assist Aang and helping him find an important Earth-bending teacher. Some episodes involving Katara and Sokka that I can't wait to see in live-action include Avatar Day And Library.
Dallas Liu as Zuko and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Iroh
Prince Zuko is Ozai's son, desperate to impress his father and prove himself worthy of becoming the future Fire Lord. In Season 1, after being given the task of capturing the Avatar, he failed miserably. Avatar Aang and his friends were always one step ahead of him, finding themselves in a few narrow escapes.
In Season 2, Zuko and his uncle Iroh are criminals, but they still continue to pursue the greatness of capturing the Avatar. Plus, now that his sister Princess Azula has surpassed him, things have gotten even more personal.
Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai
Given that Season 2 will include his wife Ursa, we could see a much deeper backstory for Ozai in Season 2. Season 1 explored characters and events that aren't covered in Season 1, or in the original show at all. The prospect of a detailed backstory for Ozai in the new episodes, including his history with the Avatar, Iroh, and Ursa, is very exciting. The animated show doesn't really cover anything until Book 3: Fire, where we get to Avatar and Agnidev,
Elizabeth Yu – Azula
After Zuko's many failed attempts to capture the Avatar in Season 1, Azula is there to prove that it's not as difficult as he's making it out to be. Azula doesn't even appear until Season 2 of the animated show; her inclusion in Season 1 of the Netflix series was a deliberate move to fully establish her character. By the end of Season 1, Azula had conquered Omashu and imprisoned King Bumi.
He is one of the most important characters in season 2. His fight against Aang is one of the best in the show. I am looking forward to seeing the standoff between Aang and Zuko. FollowSeason 2 is all set to be Azula's season, and I'm here for it.
Maria Zhang – as Suqi
Suki won over fans instantly in Season 1. As the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, she is a strong and powerful leader. I really hope the writers expand her story for Season 2. She only appeared once in Season 1. And in Book 2: Earth, she is not a main character, but she appears in Episode 12, path of the serpent and episode 16, Appa's Lost Days,
Of course, Suki becomes a significantly more prominent figure. Book 3: Fire, Boiling rock This is one of my favorite stories in the entire Avatar story, but we’ll have to wait until Season 3 for that.
Other characters we can expect to see in Season 2 include Mai, Ty Lee, King Bumi, Avatar Kyoshi, etc. The appearance of these characters hasn't been officially confirmed, but we can confirm that they will appear. However, as we saw in Season 1, the Netflix remake isn't afraid to change things up completely. It's entirely possible that we could see surprise appearances and expanded roles.
New characters confirmed to join season 2 of Nickelodeon series
We can now confirm six new characters who will make their debut in Season 2. This includes three brand new characters.
Toph
For Avatar fans, Toph needs no introduction. But for those of you who don't know, Toph – also known as the Blind Bandit – is one of the most popular characters in the entire series. Introduced in Book 2: Earth, Toph becomes the newest member of Team Avatar. Despite being blind, she is one of the most talented earth-bending women in the world, and she even invented metal-bending.
She's funny, sassy, and stubborn. Toph's personality meshes perfectly with the rest of the team. As you may have heard over the summer, Netflix is running an open casting call for the role of Toph.
Ursa
One very exciting new character confirmed to be joining Season 2 is Ursa. She plays a big role in the backstory of the Fire Nation. The Netflix show seems to be focusing on the Fire Nation and developing it much more than its animated counterpart. In fact, Daniel Dae Kim (Ozai) has already hinted about an episode covering the complicated family history.
“What is the relationship between the two when the second son takes the place of the first son? And how does Iroh feel about all of this? We never really delved into that,” he explained teen VogueHe also expressed his interest in the show detailing Ursa's fate.
At the moment we don't know who will play Ursa in Season 2. We can expect Netflix to announce the casting during Geeked Week later this year.
Long Feng
As the Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se, Long Feng is the leader of the Dai Li. While on the surface he appears pleasant and charismatic, he hides his true colors as a power-hungry, cunning leader. Although Kui appears to be the nominal leader of the Earth Kingdom, it is actually Long Feng who pulls the strings.
New original characters for Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2?
We've been told that three of the characters Netflix has cast for the new season are brand new characters that aren't on the Nickelodeon show. They may have codenames, but we're in the dark at the moment.
general song
General Song is not a character from the original show. Chances are he is a completely new character. Maybe he is an ancestor of General Song, an officer in the metalbending police force in Republic City. The Legend of Korra,
General Train
Likewise, General Tran is not a character in the original show. Lieutenant Dang was in the Netflix showAn original character from a Netflix show. I think General Tran is like that too.
Bone saw
I'd be very surprised if someone named 'Bone Saw' didn't turn out to be the villain. They almost seem like a master of bloodshed. But who knows? Your guess is as good as mine.
