One night in Bangkok? Stay at the so-called “best hotel in the world.”
An exclusive list of fifty exceptional accommodations compiled by a renowned organisation has been announced – and Capella Bangkok, “a tranquil riverfront oasis” located in the heart of the “chaotic” Thai capital, has been awarded first place.

Bangkok's long-standing reputation for hotel hospitality appears to be in safe hands at the 101-room Capella, which opened in 2020. All rooms face the Chao Phraya River at the property, which reviewers said “exudes the elegance of a grand lady” while offering “the intimacy of a boutique hotel.”
According to the organization, voting on the list is done by 600 people sitting anonymously on regional panels of hoteliers, travel journalists and experienced luxury travelers. Votes are based on stays during the previous 18-month voting period. Voting reportedly remains confidential until the list is announced.
“We are thrilled to share the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024 list and celebrate Capella Bangkok’s No. 1 ranking,” Emma Sleight, head of content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, said in a written statement.
“This year’s dynamic list underlines the appetite for a range of experiences, from busy city breaks to far-flung escapes, and honours the dedication and passion of the staff who make these exceptional experiences possible, as well as highlighting the remarkable breadth of talent in the industry around the world,” Sleight said.
The organization said that rates at Capella Bangkok start at $600 per night.
New York has been pushed to the bottom of this prestigious list, as the “spectacular” Passalacqua on Lake Como, Italy (in second place) is housed in an “18th-century villa whose former premises were the home of Pope Innocent X.”
