Biden issues warning on China’s trade policies during private meeting with Xi at Peru summit



President Joe Biden pressed Chinese President Xi Jinping over the Republic of China’s unfair trade policies during a private meeting on Saturday, after President-elect Donald Trump made closing down the country’s trade practices a key part of his victory platform.

Outgoing Biden, 81, stressed how federal officials will take necessary action to prevent any use of advanced technology that undermines the national security of the United States or its allies. The White House said in a statement.

According to multiple outlets, Biden said, “We are the most important alliance — or the most important relationship — in the entire world, and how we get along together can have an impact on the rest of the world.”

“And so both our countries cannot let this competition turn into conflict. That’s our responsibility and over the last four years I think we’ve proven that this relationship is possible.”

According to multiple outlets, Xi expressed concern that the Republican president-elect could create divisions in China’s relations with the United States if he takes back control of the White House.

“China is willing to work with the new US administration to maintain communication, expand cooperation and manage differences so as to achieve stable China-US relations for the benefit of both peoples,” Xi said through an interpreter. Efforts can be made to bring about change.”
