President Biden argued Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris is not more “progressive” than him on policy – disputing an argument being put forth by Republicans.
Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Biden “how much more progressive is Vice President Kamala Harris than you as a candidate in the general?”
“The issues we’ve worked on together have made big progress economically,” the president responded while walking out of the White House en route to a Cancer Moonshot event in Louisiana.
“No one calls what we did on infrastructure progressive. It’s a good policy,” Biden added.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has painted Harris as a “radical” liberal that is more left than Biden.
“Our country is becoming a very dangerous place, and she is a radical-left San Francisco liberal,” Trump said Monday night in an interview with Elon Musk.
Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley has called the Harris-Walz ticket “the most dangerously liberal ticket in history” doe to her “soft on crime policies,” her record on the southern border and “the elimination of the oil and gas industry across the country.”
Harris has not outright stated if she would try to deviate from Biden’s legacy to be more progressive. She has no policy platform on her campaign website and has yet to sit down for an interview since replacing Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday that there was “no daylight” between Harris’ and Biden’s policies in the past three and a half years, and that she expects Harris to build on the “successes” of the Biden-Harris administration.
Biden also said he would attend a Trump inauguration if the former president won another term.
“I have good manners not like him,” Biden said.
