Vice President Kamala Harris‘The former communications director hatched a wild plan to make her the first female commander-in-chief — President Biden would simply have to resign.
Jamal Simmons, who will serve as part of Harris’ team from 2022 to 2023, urged biden Step aside so Harris can make history — even despite her landslide defeat to President-elect Donald Trump.
“Joe Biden has been wonderful but he must fulfill one last promise – to be transitional. Biden should resign and make Kamala Harris the first woman president,” Simmons Posted on x,
“This would turn the tide for Trump, preventing Kamala from presiding on January 6, making it easier for the next woman to run.”
The former spokesman turned CNN commentator made a similar argument on Sunday’s broadcast, to which his conservative colleague Scott Jennings laughed.
“It will dominate the news to the point where Democrats will have to learn drama and transparency and do things the public wants to see,” Simmons said on air.
“It is time for us to change the entire perspective of how the Democrats operate.”
Biden, 81, had already helped Harris, 60, create history when he gave her the chance to become the first female Vice President. She is also the first Black woman and Asian American Vice President in American history.
Additionally, the President stepped down as the presumptive Democratic nominee on July 21, paving the way for Harris to become the second woman to lead the party’s presidential ticket.

Harris vigorously avoided talking about the potentially barrier-breaking nature of her campaign, in sharp contrast to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who largely avoided mentioning the so-called glass ceiling.
As Vice President, Harris is tasked with presiding over the congressional hearing on January 6, 2025, to certify the results of the 2024 election.
Simmons emphasized that by leaving office, Biden will ensure that Harris does not have to go through this.
She was hoping to oversee the certification of her win, but ultimately failed and must certify her opponent.
Trump and his campaign sold hats and other merchandise labeled 45-47, a nod to his being the 45th and 47th president, respectively.
If Biden had to leave office early, it would be difficult.
Simmons’ comments come amid Democratic introspection over how the party lost to Republicans and Trump last week despite calling it a threat to American democracy.
“The Dems have better policies but we must realize that the old rules no longer apply. We are not playing table tennis. We are in mixed martial arts combat and respond to American drama and excitement. We should use this to make our case for a better way forward,” he wrote in another X post.
