Big Bang Theory fans celebrate as Jim Parsons and Mayim Balik reunite for Young Sheldon finale

Big Bang Theory fans, it’s time to celebrate.

The two characters will reappear in the series finale of Young Sheldon — the first time the actors have appeared together in the hugely successful prequel spinoff.

Parsons is an executive producer on Young Sheldon and has narrated on all seven seasons of the show.

Bialik has reprised her character and served as a co-narrator on two episodes of Young Sheldon.

But they have never featured on the show together.

Details of the season finale storyline — and how Parsons and Bialik will fit into it — have been kept under wraps until the show airs in the US on May 16.

Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage as the future theoretical physicist, but the series is told from the perspective of an older Sheldon than the one viewers saw on Big Bang Theory.

Through Sheldon’s narration, fans learned that he and Amy went on to have several children together.

But if fans are feeling sad that Young Sheldon is drawing to a close, there is light at the end of the tunnel because it’s not exactly the end of the Big Bang Theory universe.

Young Sheldon will be followed by a second Big Bang offshoot, which will focus on Sheldon’s older brother Georgie, played by Montana Jordan, and his bride-to-be Mandy (Emily Osment).

That show is slated to air later this year or early in 2025, with an exact release date yet to be confirmed by CBS.

Apart from being US television’s most-watched prime-time comedy, Young Sheldon has also had an immensely popular second life on streaming platform Netflix.

News that Parsons and Bialik would reunite on Young Sheldon had fans of both shows celebrating as they took to social media to enthuse over the prospect.

“No way, so excited!!” one fan wrote when Young Sheldon’s official Instagram shared the announcement.

“We need a spinoff with all their babies,” wrote another.

“Who agrees they just need to bring back Big Bang Theory with all their babies?” agreed another.

Another said she would be “ugly crying” as she watched, a sentiment echoed by many others.

“Well then it’s confirmed — I’m going to bawl my eyes out,” said one.

“NO STOP I’M CRYING,” added another.

Between Big Bang Theory, which ran from 2007 to 2019, and Young Sheldon, the beloved character of Sheldon Cooper has been on TV screens for a remarkable 17 years.

“Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” executive producers Steve Holland, Steven Molaro and Chuck Lorre said in a statement in November announcing Young Sheldon would end in 2024.

“We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”
