Billie Eilish Trades One No. 1 Single For Another, Replacing Herself

Billie Eilish has been on a winning streak throughout the past several weeks—though it’s not as if she had ever really faltered as one of the world’s biggest pop stars. Recently, the latest single from her new album has been growing in popularity, and at the same time, she teamed up with another pop superstar to deliver an exciting new tune, which also became a hit.

The Grammy and Oscar winner trades one win for another in one of the largest music markets in the world this week. Eilish replaces herself atop the songs chart in Australia, as her own single kicks her high-profile collaboration off the throne.

On the newly-published ARIA songs tally, which ranks the most-consumed tracks in Australia, Eilish flies to No. 1. Her single “Birds of a Feather” flaps its wings and soars from the runner-up rung, where it landed last time around, to the top spot for the first time.

In doing so, Eilish pushes her own most recent champion out of first place. Last week, she and Charli XCX debuted their track “Guess”—a remix of Charli’s solo song—at No. 1 on the ARIA songs list. This frame, the tune only slips to third place.

It’s not common for any musician to replace themselves at No. 1 on a singles chart anywhere in the world. While it’s also not unheard of, it does require a fairly specific—and rare—set of circumstances, which this time around happened to work in Eilish’s favor.

As she fills two of the highest rungs on the Australian songs chart, Eilish also claims just as many spaces further down on the 50-spot list. Previous single “Hit Me Hard and Soft” slips from No. 22 to No. 29. Meanwhile, “Wildflower,” which appears to be another smash from the full-length, declines slightly from No. 44 to No. 46.

Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft is still performing incredibly well on the albums chart down under as well. The singer’s third full-length is steady in the runner-up rung on that list this frame. The former No. 1 is kept from running the show once again by hometown hero Amy Shark, who debuts her latest collection Sunday Sadness atop the ranking.
